This laboratory has been conducting vigorous research on brazing stainless steel with foil Ni brazing filler metal. As a result, it was confirmed that the reaction between boron (B) in the brazing filler metal and chromium (Cr) in the base metal forms reticulate Cr-B compounds for austenitic stainless steels and needle-like Cr-B compounds for ferritic stainless steels. It has been confirmed that this effect causes a Cr-depleted zone near the interface of the brazed joint, which adversely affects the corrosion resistance of the brazed joint as a whole.
