Choosing an appropriate sample size is a crucial step in any successful statistical study. In the case of longitudinal studies, sample size determination has not been addressed often by researchers due to the complexity in design. A simulation-based method is put forward to determine the sample size from a Bayesian perspective. Many Bayesian criteria including Bayesian power criterion are used for sample size determination. With the help of an appropriate model, the sample size is determined for longitudinal studies with continuous response based on different scientific questions of interest. While most sample size determination methods are based on a single hypotheses, the method proposed uses two different frameworks based on univariate and multiple hypotheses to determine the required sample size. Examples are given to illustrate the proposed method.
