We present an approach for reduction of off-axis aberrations of imaging optical systems. The idea is to reduce aperture-dependent off-axis aberrations of optical systems by reduction of the effective aperture of off-axis beams depending on the angle of incidence. The effective aperture of beams is reduced to a greater extent for beams with greater angle of incidence. This is achieved by the use of specific three-dimensional vignetting stop structures, which can be implemented in different ways. These structures work as angle-dependent vignetting stop for the subsequent optical system. This approach can be applied to various optical systems to improve their off-axis optical resolution and extend the usable field of view, without the use of additional optical elements like lenses or mirrors.
