TheTexas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) is gearing up for the Southwest Veterinary Symposium (SWVS). After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, we will return to the tradeshow with a booth, and we invite you to stop by and visit with TVMDL staff. In addition to the trade-show, you also will findTVMDL represented in the continuing education portion of SWVS. Dr. Jessie Monday, our Canyon laboratory's veterinary diagnostician, will be presenting on multiple bovine-related topics during the morning session on September 23. Dr. Monday is a wealth of information on all things bovine. She works closely with our Canyon clients and offers several great examples of real-life diagnostic cases, so I invite you to attend at least one of her presentations. At the beginning of May,TVMDL welcomed Dr. Cristy Rocio González-Barrientos, anatomic pathologist, to our College Station laboratory. Dr. González-Barrientos graduated from the National University of Costa Rica in 2008 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, she served as a clinical instructor at the National University of Costa Rica in the Department of Pathology. In 2009, she began her position as a pathologist at the Animal Health National Service in Costa Rica. While there, she was charged with bovine spongiform encephalopathy and rabies diagnostic testing, in addition to performing brucellosis surveillance among stranded dolphins. Dr. González-Barrientos also helped establish the pathology laboratory at the Ministry of Livestock and Agriculture in 2010. She began an anatomic pathology residency at Cornell University in 2019. At Cornell, she served as a teaching assistant on the necropsy floor and performed histopathologic diagnosis on a great variety of animal species both on the biopsy and necropsies services. We are excited that Dr. González-Barrientos has chosen to join our team.
