摘要

Natural fibers have important properties such as low density, proper stiffness, mechanical properties, high disposability and renewability. They are also recyclable and biodegradable. Nowadays many researchers are working on use of naturals fibres in different composites. Banana fiber, a lingo cellulosic fiber, obtained from the pseudo-stem of banana plant, is a bast fiber with relatively good mechanical properties. Bamboo fibers are cellulosic fibers that are produced from bamboo plants. They are soft in feel and comfortable against the skin. The suitability of banana-bamboo fiber composite namely 100 banana fibre composite, 100 bamboo fiber composite and 50∶50 banana-bamboo fiber composite were studied for their various applications. The mechanical properties such as tensile strength and impact strength used to evaluate fiber matrix interface of composites were described in part-1 of the paper, It showed that the maximum tensile strength of 30.105 MPa and maximum impact strength of 0.109 J was found in bamboo fiber composite. Part-2 of the paper describes the structural properties of the fractured surfaces of composites which was evaluated by using scanning electron microscope.
