West Cumbria Mining has said it is "delighted" the government has "agreed" with Cumbria County Council's decision to approve its planning application for a deep coal mine in Whitehaven. Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron announced on 6 January that the government had turned down his request to call in the planning application for Woodhouse Colliery, effectively paving the way for the £l60m project to go ahead.Mark Kirkbride, chief executive of West Cumbria Mining, said he was "delighted that the holding direction has been lifted following what has been an extremely rigorous planning process".
