The OSH manager must ensure that an organization effectively administers the staffing process for the OSH department. This may necessitate the direct participation of the OSH manager in what may be thought of as traditionally HR activities. Because ensuring an adequate supply of quality safety professionals can be a challenge, the OSH manager should seek out information on the applicant pool, most likely to be enrolled in or alumni of OSH-related degree programs. The OSH manager faced with these tasks could be aided by further research into how the staffing process, specific to OSH professionals, could be improved as well as research that provides more data regarding the demographic characteristics of students enrolled in OSH-related degree programs.
