River Ganga is the most important river in India as it has great economic and religious value in India. Such an important river is becoming more and more contaminated day by day (Hamner et al., 2007). Due to disposal of faecal material, contamination of Salmonella in Ganga water is very common (Pandey et al, 2005). Salmonella has a broad host range and high morbidity, but all isolates of Salmonella are not pathogenic. There are several genes involved in virulence of Salmonella among them vir (Spvc) is most important as it act as positive regulator for expression of down stream virulent genes (Guling et al, 1998). In present study 13 isolates of Salmonella Typhimurium which were isolated from Ganga water studied for presence of 'vir' gene and its effect on invasion of isolates in Chicken Embryo fibroblast Cells.
