Mineta. Secretary Mineta's accomplishments and impacts on American society were significant and lasting. He is best known perhaps for his decisive leadership on 9/11 when he safely brought all airplanes to the ground and his subsequent efforts created and mobilized the Transportation Security Administration. As a mayor, 10-term Congressman, and Cabinet Secretary under both Democratic and Republican administrations, Secretary Mineta's influence was widespread. Among his many accomplishments was crafting the Intermodal Transportation Efficient Act. This law marked the endof the interstate highway era and a shift to a broader national transportation policy agenda."We have lost one of the most impactful transportation leaders of our time and a genuinelynice person. I was fortunate to see his leadership firsthand during my career with the US DOT.His influence as a Congressman and USDOT Secretary cannot be overstated."said Jeff Paniati, ITEExecutive Director and CEO.
