Russia's United Engine Corp. has begun flight tests of the PD-8 turbofan for the SS J-New, a version of the Super-jet 100 regional jet with all-Russian components. The FAA has proposed new 5G C-band tolerance requirements for radio altimeters, and it plans to mandate that Part 121 aircraft meet the new standards by Feb. 1,2024. U.S. lawmakers are pressuring the Transportation Department to hold airlines accountable for operational disruptions after Southwest Airlines canceled more than 16,700 flights from Dec. 21 to 31 (page 18).
