V-bombers recalls an iconic generation of jet bombers. The magnificent Vickers Valiant, Avro Vulcan and Handley Page Victor formed Britain's nuclear deterrent from the mid-1950s to the introduction of the Royal Navy's Polaris submarines in 1968. And even after they relinquished their nuclear roles, the Victor and Vulcan served with great distinction in conventional roles. Famously, just as the scrapman beckoned, the last of the V-bombers were hurriedly prepared for their first real combat missions during the Falklands War, which sealed their much-deserved place in Royal Air Force history.
