Openreach has said it's replacing more than 650 broadband and telephone poles that were damaged during February's storms. It added that its four million poles are "incredibly robust and tested regularly", but that "inevitably some of them succumbed to the high winds and falling trees" of Storms Dudley, Eunice and Franklin. Most poles are 8-9 metres tall, but some reach 15 metres. Storm Eunice caused the most damage, it said. For several days after, Openreach received 10 times more damage reports than usual. This peaked in one 24-hour period with 7,000 reports of damage.
