SPA held its annual member meeting last November at the Winter Haven, Florida, Regional Airport, where SPA offices are located. About 50 people attended the meeting, which took place in the FBO restaurant. Following the meeting the restaurant served members a buffet lunch. SPA Executive Director Steve McCaughey led the meeting and gave attendees an overview of the year's activities and a vision of SPA's future. He began with some good news-SPA membership numbers have recovered from the Covid-related slump experienced in 2020. Also in 2021, members upgraded to Lifetime status in record numbers, bringing SPA Lifetime Membership to 10 percent of our total membership. This is a positive indicator of member satisfaction and, indeed, the feedback from membership is extremely high. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to bringing more awareness to the vital role played by the Seaplane Foundation. The Seaplane Foundation provides a vehicle for people to make tax-deductible contributions that make it possible for SPA to offer safety initiatives, outreach, education, and scholarship programs to the water flying community. During the member meeting seven people, including Executive Director McCaughey, each made a $1,000 contribution to the Foundation's Captains Society.
