摘要

The results of a VFS workforce analysis in January 2020 indicated that the vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) technical workforce is at a critical juncture. At the same time that the US Department of Defense (DoD) has kicked off several multi-billion-dollar rotorcraft acquisition efforts under the Future Vertical Lift (FVL) initiative, and traditional aerospace and defense (AD) companies struggle to fill hundreds of vacancies seeking talented VTOL engineers, the "Electric VTOL Revolution" also requires thousands of engineers. A May 2020 study by the bipartisan Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) stated that "The biggest challenge facing the entire rotorcraft industry emphasis added is the competition for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) talent with non-traditional defense firms like Amazon and Google, which can offer substantially more money. Right now, many of the major rotorcraft primes are undertaking large efforts to hire engineering talent to work on clean sheet designs of new products and lines."
