The international consortium overseeing the giant Kashagan oil development offshore Kazakhstan is discussing a second-phase expansion that could double production from the field to around 700,000 barrels per day by the end of the decade,according to information provided by Kazakh state oil company Kazmunaigas(KMG).Kazakhstan,the second-largest oil producer in the former Soviet Union behind Russia with current production of around 1.9 million b/d,is looking at its three giant fields-Kashagan,Tengiz and Karachaganak-to increase output levels over the next decade.
