The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) plans to construct a second solar PV plant at the Karnafuli hydropower station, backed by financing from the Asian Development Bank. The BPDB has decided to set up a 7.6 MW solar powerplant on land near the 230 MW Karnafuli hydro-power station, about 50 km from the port city of Chittagong, following an in-house feasibility study, according to a reported from BPDB in January. The new solar farm is to be located near another 7.4 MW PV array that was commissioned in 2019. "We are now carrying out necessary prelimi- nary works for the solar plant," said Ahmed Jahir Khan, Director of Re-newables at the BPDB. He said that the 7.4 MW project would generate an average of 26 MWh/day of electricity, adding: "With more advanced technology, the new plant's output could increase to 28 to 30 MWh/day." No financial or further technical details have yet been announced. BPDB is a partially integrated public utility, which is responsible for planning, construction and operation of power generation and transmission throughout Bangladesh and for distribution in urban areas, except for the metropolitan city of Dhaka and its adjoining area.
