ABSTRACT Rotating packed beds (RPBs) have been explored for process intensification in thermal systems using air-water as working fluids. The thermal performance parameters such as cooling range, evaporation rate, heat transfer rate, Merkel number, and effectiveness for the RBP were experimentally evaluated for the airflow rate (0.0072–0.0201 kg/s), water flow rate (0.033 and 0.066 kg/s), and water inlet temperature (35, 40, and 45°C) at 800 rpm. The effectiveness of up to 0.48 and the Merkel number of 0.409 were observed, and the results were found to be in agreement with CTI (Cooling Technology Institute) performance curve charts, confirming the feasibility of RPBs as thermal systems.
