Traffic noise – including that from aircraft overflights – may play an essentialrole in the development and deterioration of ischemic heart disease, which iscaused by a restriction of blood supply to the heart, German researchers reportedJan. 26They concluded from a study of mice that aircraft noise alone primes cardiovascularinflammation. And they concluded from a review of medical records ofpeople in a long-term health study that aircraft noise exposure prior to acute myocardialinfarction (heart attack) worsens cardiac dysfunction and amplifies vascularinflammation.
