摘要

Although it is not a pea and it's not really a nut, this seed pod called a peanut has become one of the world's most important food crops. In fact, it seems everybody is nuts about it,Although the peanut has been domesticated about 4,000 years ago in the foothills of the Andes, the seed crop was first discovered by European soldiers of fortune in Haiti. The locals call it mani. In the 16th century, the Spanish conquista-dores took the peanut to the Philippines where it is also called mead. In most of eastern Asia, it was the Chinese who propagated it throughout the region. It is called Chinese bean in Japan, Indonesia, and in most parts of India.
