摘要

The Vegetable Research and Development Station Buzau (V.R.D.S.), Romania has a valuable germplasm collection consisting of over 305 Capsicum accessions. The aim of this study was to assess phenotypic diversity and to determine the relationships between accessions in order to ensure efficient germplasm collection management and also to establish valuable genotypes for breeding purposes. First step in the description and classification of the germplasm collection was the morphological characterization; therefore, the research was carried out to assess 105 accessions of sweet pepper from Capsicum annuum. Over three consecutive years, the accessions were characterized for 42 agro-morphological traits. Morphological data were subjected to principal components analysis, followed by hierarchical agglomerative clustering. The germplasm collection was divided into three clusters based on their morphological and agronomical traits. Cluster 1 contained 11 accessions with tall plants, with a height of over 70 cm. Fruits were large, with a medium weight of 215.32 g, but with a low content in total soluble (5.83 °Brix). The firmness was high (73.44 N), making them suitable for fresh consumption and with a long life-shelf. Cluster 2 represented the largest group with a number of 53 accessions. The average fruit weight was 128.96 g and the pericarp thickness measured 7.85 mm, making them suitable for preservation and also for fresh consumption. Number of fruits per plant recorded 15 fruits and the total soluble content was high, 7.06 °Brix. Number of seeds per fruit was, on average, 270 seeds. Cluster 3 comprehended 41 accessions with small, but numerous fruits. This group contained fruits with high content in total soluble, in average, 10.71 °Brix, but with a low firmness. Number of seeds per fruit was low, 119 seeds. The diversity of germplasm collection has great potential for improving agronomic traits in sweet pepper completely adapted to pedo-climatic conditions in Romania and farmer's requirements.
