In modern society, the trend tends towards living in metropolitan areas. Densely populated residential areas allow people to live and work nearby, yet these areas must be connected to fresh water and wastewater systems. Water losses pose a serious challenge in this regard. On the one hand, drinking water can be lost through concrete pipes - mainly seen in the Middle East - and on the other hand, sewage can leak. Wastewater leaks are particularly problematic since they lead to environmental and, above all, groundwater pollution. Textile concrete offers completely new possibilities for designing water-carrying systems with minimal losses. These possibilities were investigated as part of a Master's thesis completed at the ITA.
