AM (Additive Manufacturing) is defined by ASTM as "a process of joining materials to make objects from 3D model data, usually layer upon layer, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing methodologies. Synonyms: additive fabrication, additive processes, additive techniques, additive layer manufacturing, layer manufacturing, and freeform fabrication. As one of the promising AM technologies, selective laser sintering (SLS) is a layer manufacturing process to generate complex 3D parts by consolidating successive layers of powder materials layer by layer.
