As life as we know it is seemingly returning to normal after COVID, so are face-to-face conferences. For the past couple of years, online and hybrid conferences have served the purpose of continuing education and learning for the profession. Virtual conferences and study days do have their advantages, such as the opportunity to 'attend' conferences and study days in distant locations, that one may not have been able to in person. This could be because of childcare, cost of travel, sustenance and accommodation, lack of time, to name a just a few reasons. However, the human element of meeting colleagues (and friends) both professionally and socially, is not there. I am therefore very much looking forward to the British Association of Oral Surgeons (the society that co-own the journal) conference in Edinburgh, upcoming this November.
