Average relative stem profiles and true form factors for slash pine (Pinus elliottiiEngelm var.elliottiiL amp; D), Caribbean pine(Pinus caribaeaMorelet var.hondurensisB amp; G) and their interspecific Fl hybrid were compared. Underbark diameters at several points along the stem and the heights of 2445 sample trees were measured. A polynomial stem profile model was used to describe relative diameters in terms of relative height for each taxon, and a true form factor was calculated for each tree. The stem profiles and the true form factors for each taxon were also compared statistically. Although the differences in average stem profiles and true form factors were statistically significant, the differences were negligible in practical terms. Thus, the stem profile and form of the Fl hybrid were comparable with both parental species.
