摘要

Mechanochemical process has been applied to the mixture of Y_2O_3 and Al_2O_3 in order to increase its reactivity. Yttrium aluminate garnet (YAG, Y_3Al_5O_(12)) has been synthesized at 1000 deg C from the milled mixture, which I significantly lower than that required by the conventional solid-state reaction process and comparable with that required by most of the chemical-based synthesis routes. The reduced formation temperature of the YAG phase is believed to be beneficial from the refined Y_2O_3 and Al_2O_3 as a result of the high-energy ball milling.
