This paper proposes the finite element method,as well as the energy-based Raleigh-Ritz approach, foroptimization of the press frame with buckling constraint. In thefinite element method, the geometric stiffness matrix is derived;second order nonlinear strain terms are incorporated into thegoverning energy equation. On the other hand, in the Raleigh-Ritz approach, the suitable buckling displacement functionssatisfying the boundary conditions are presented. Then, thenumerical results obtained from these two approaches arecompared with the field data to ascertain validity.
