Europe launches an initiative for collaboration between the textile and other manufacturing industries. The European textile and clothing industry is confident that technology holds the key to its competitiveness in both domestic and overseas markets. The European Technology Platform for the Future of Textiles Clothing (Textile ETP) presented its Strategic Research Agenda at its first annual conference in Brussels in early June. The SRA, which builds on the Vision for 2020 which the industry published in 2004, was presented to some 300 representatives from the textile and clothing industry, research centres and European and national public authorities. However, if the textile and clothing industry is to profit from the research conducted on its behalf, the results of this research must be given shape and substance by Europe's manufacturing industry.
