Abstract. Prior to April 1985 the Global Vegetation Index data supplied by NOAA were only available on polar stereographic (PS) projections. For many purposes this presentation is inconvenient. For this reason a program to transform the data from PS projection on to a more convenient projection, namely an equatorial cylindrical Plate Carree projection in which the north-south scale remains constant throughout, is presented. Properties of both of the projections are discussed.
