Since requirements relating to the functionality and quality of castings and to the productivity and reliability of casting processes are constantly on the increase, the simulation of casting techniques has become very important in recent years. Documentation of what takes place during casting processes gives essential information about the expected quality of the castings. The value of simulation results increases in step with the accuracy of their predictions and the degree of their acceptance by users of castings. In many foundries, simulation of the mould filling and solidification stages has become a standard instrument for predicting the outcome of a casting method, optimising production and preventive quality assurance. This trend is followed by Magma Giebereitechnologie GmbH in Aachen, which has been active in the field of casting technology simulation since 1988 and, currently with four locations (in Aachen, Chicago, Sao Paulo and Singapore), assures practical and continual further development of products. In the areas of casting design and process optimisation, technologies for all casting methods and materials have been developed, which are available to component designers, producers and users in the form of programs and services.
