The morphological details of the sporoderm of spore forms referred to the organ generaReticulosporisKrutzsch andCicatricososporitesPflug amp; Thomson give rise to different optical phenomena. The basal parts of lumina and grooves act as negative lenses forming virtual images of the opposite spore wall. The lumina rims act as aperture diaphragms in the optical systems of the sporoderm. The lumina may also act as apertures in a diffraction grating. Phenomena of the types described have previously been interpreted as structures of the sporoderm.
