Among the second-order bays in the Petr Velikii Gulf, Vostok Bay remained the purest one for a long time, as only scarce small settlements and agricultural farms occupy its coast, and there is an absence of industrial enterprises with ecologically hazardous output and toxic discharges into the sea. Over the last 10-13 years, the ecological situation in Vostok Bay has become noticeably worse because of the increasing recreation load and industrial activity that was resumed in the terminal 1990s. For example, the total number of campers on the Gulf coast was 20 000 in the summer of 2001 and exceeded 45 000 in June-September 2003. The number of tourists was particularly high in Sred-nyaya and Vostok bays and at the eastern coast of the Petr Velikii Gulf near Lake Lebedinoe, where a sports camp and sailing club are located (Fig. 1).
