The launch meeting of a research project on the environmental safety, development tendency and control mechanism of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) was held recently in Beijing, About 40 experts and officials from the CAS Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Peking University, the CAS Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Nanjing University and Tsinghua University attended the conference. The project will be jointly coordinated by CAS and the State Environmental Protection Administration with financial support from the National Basic Research Priorities Program ("973" Program). Its principal investigator is Prof. Wang Guibin, vice director of RCEES.
