摘要

During World War Two, PCA made optimistic plans for a peaceful world of commerce and filed applications with the CAB for authority to serve no fewer than 100 new domestic destinations. But PCA's most dramatic proposal was for international routes to Europe, the Caribbean, and to Central and South America with an innovative plan for building floating airports in the Atlantic Ocean to serve as way stations between North America and Europe. These small man-made islands, called 'Seadromes', would be used as refueling points and radio stations. They were to be anchored at 800mi (1,300km) intervals and located south of a great circle route.
