Members of the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild celebrated our fiftieth anniversary in 2005. Over the years we've smiled at accounts of meetings from the 1950s, when weavers were referred to as Miss or Mrs., and at photos showing weavers wearing hats! But most of all, we are humbled by the dedication and artistry of our founding members. In addition to other celebrations, our show Golden Threads, Connecting Innovation and Tradition was an important part of the golden anniversary celebration. There were two parts to the juried show: the General Show and a Golden Anniversary Award Competition for emerging textile artists. The General Show was juried by Alice Schlein, who selected the pieces and gave the awards. Her suggestions for creating successful photographs of work to submit to juried shows are included in this article.
