The authors describe the design and construction of a new compact high-temperature furnace which is used to investigate magneto-optical spectra of atoms. The furnace can deliver a temperature of up to 2000 degrees C and fits into the inner bore of a 6 T superconducting magnet. It is about 60 cm long and has an outer diameter of 10 cm. The optically accessible zone of the furnace is 3 cm in diameter. An illustrative magneto-rotation spectrum of silver is presented.
