This book was edited and published as a commemorative activity in the 60th anniversary of Japan Railway Engineer's Association. Its main theme is to forecast the coming railway systems based on the technologies applied in the past 20 years It has two parts ; one of which contains the typical technical developments in the past 20 years of the railway subsystems forming into the systems, and the other part of which has the descriptions on the coming railway technologies forecasted by the scholars who have interests in railways, and by the railway engineers who have been directly involving in the fields.
