With immediate data and seamless communication available through the Web, our annual reader survey finds the pervasive Internet more an essential widget than a playful gadget. Some 38 million full-time workers in the U.S. have Internet access at their jobs, and two-thirds of them go online at least once per day, according to a Pew Internet Life Report. And, despite the demise of many dotcom enterprises, the Internet population continues to rise. In our annual survey of Internet usage among our readers, this growth also is evident among recycling and composting officials.
