AbstractThe infrared spectra of methane,n‐butane‐, andn‐dodecane‐sulfonic acids, their esters, alkali metal, silver and amine salts, amides, and chlorides are compared with analogous structures derived from chlorinated and chlorosulfonated polyethylenes. The Bellamy and William's linear relationship betweenvSO2(asym.) andvSO2(sym.) is valid for both the simple alkane sulfonic acid derivatives and those of chlorinated and chlorosulfonated polyet
