AbstractPhotoacoustic spectroscopy was used to assess the degradation of polyethylene under local natural weathering conditions. The results obtained are in good agreement with those obtained using infrared spectroscopy and from mechanical testing. Photoacoustic spectroscopy supports the accepted mechanism of polyethylene degradation.
