Getting information on new technology - this is the primary objective of the visitor at an industrial exhibition. Beside technical and commercial magazines, arriving monthly on the desk, exhibitions offered the only opportunity to see, compare and get an overview of the complete offerings of existing and new technology in industrial production. However, times change! Internet homepages, Email and search machines were a matter of a few young enthusiasts in 1991 (ITMA Hannover), got on the road by 1995 (ITMA Milan), to become the topic of the day with ECommerce and B2B in 1999 (ITMA Paris). Now, they are commonplace, and an efficient tool to get and compile technical information. ITMA 2003 was a proof of this, and did indeed mark a change in the purpose of this exhibition: it is no longer a landmark in technology, but now a marketplace for exchanging views, seeing new faces and collecting names, hints and links.
