The survival rate of premature infants has improved significantly over the past 2 decades, primarily as a result of advances in neonatal intensive care technology and pharmacology. Current research on preterm labor (PTL) has concentrated on learning more about the factors which cause or intensify PTL, such as maternal infections. The search for the most efficacious and safe tocolytic agent is another vital area of investigation.
