摘要

On July 1 1984, the Government of Saskatchewan proclaimed The Water Corporation Act, an Act of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan which received Royal Assent on May 25 during the Third Session of the Twentieth Legislature. The Act contained the legislative basis for the new Crown corporation and marked the beginning of a new approach to water resource management and administration in Saskatchewan. The Crown corporation was formed to better enable the government to encourage the development of water and water related resources. In addition, a corporation is able to structure its financial affairs on an ongoing basis as opposed to the traditional year-by-year departmental financial structure. This ongoing financial structure is well suited to the ownership and operation of water works and facilities. The purpose of this paper is to describe the role and legislated mandate of the Saskatchewan Water Corporation and provide an overview of its operations.
