A large body of biomedical research has shown that a personrsquo;s culturemdash;-how they think, perceive, and interact with othersmdash;-influences how they seek and receive health care. Because the population of the United States is composed of an eclectic cultural mix, clinicians are advised to develop culturally sensitive approaches to caring for people from disparate cultural backgrounds. Understanding such cultural characteristics as dietary and religious customs, beliefs about healing, and amount of eye contact during interaction will help the clinician provide an appropriate cultural assessment.
