With "Siflat" the Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (IetS) makes a procedure available for non-contact measurement of the flatness of cold-rolled strip. Scratches on the surface of the strip are thus avoided. With the "fiflat" procedure, the strip is caused to oscillate by means of periodic excitation. Eddy-current sensors detect the local excitation amplitudes over the whole width of the strip, thus enabling the flatness to be determined. The calculated data are displayed by means of a visualization system. When combined with the flatness control system from Siemens, Siflat provides an effective closed-loop control system. The measuring procedure is equally suitable for steel, stainless steel and nonferrous metals.
