With the global trend in paediatric anaesthesia toward ambulatory surgery, the development of new inhalational anaesthetics that facilitate a rapid and complete emergence is essential. Both drugs are excellent maintenance agents and facilitate a rapid recovery. Nevertheless, both drugs have disadvantages that require our careful consideration as we begin to explore their possible roles in paediatric anaesthesia.
