A Not-So-United Kingdom: Although the Acts of Union of 1707 joined Great Britain and Scotland as the United Kingdom, it seems as if certain British Airways staffers have forgotten. That would include a gate agent at Gibraltar who refused to accept a £20 ($30) note issued by the Bank of Scotland. Nor would the agent accept payment in euros, claiming that because Gibraltar is a British territory, only British pounds sterling would suffice. The victim was a 56-year-old from rural Scotland's Forfar, who had incurred a £40 ($60) extra-baggage fee and who eventually had to convert his 'Scottish money' to 'British money' lest he be denied boarding. Although he eventually won an apology from BA, it is reasonable to assume that he now is a vocal advocate of the movement to have Scotland secede from the UK.
