The EU quota on Chinese exports and the way the recent confrontation was resolved has important implications for Bangladesh, say market specialists here. Some of the concerned categories, such as T-shirts (Cat. 4), pull overs (Cat. 5), men's trousers (Cat. 6) and blouses (Cat. 7) on which quotas on Chinese exports have been imposed are also major export items of Bangladesh in the EU market. In FY 2005, exports of clothing to the EU, at US$3.95 billion, represented 61.5 of Bangladesh's total clothing export. China remains a major competitor of Bangladesh in EU countries, particularly in Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Belgium, Spain and Holland. Both China and Bangladesh have taken advantage of the growing EU market.
