摘要

Astrong technological backbone is paramount in winning any battle. For U.S. Marines defending the front lines of any operation, a space-based infrastructure becomes their best defense. From communication needs to missile launches, satellites are the guiding eyes and a commander's most trusted advisor. "Digital and voice communication technology enables tactical commanders to command and control actions on the battlefield," says USMC Network Engineer, C4 Dept, Steve Denton. "Given that need, we are going to need increased satellite bandwidth to enable our move to network-centric warfare." The lifeline of such a network-centric warfare arena is secure connectivity with headquarters, other units in the area and back home all day, every day. In fact, without a constant secure phone line and Internet connection, communication with higher commands would not be impossible, turning into an operational standstill and possibly a defeat.
