The primary aluminium producer KAP (Kombinat Aluminijuma Podgorica) in Montenegro has recently signed a contract with Swiss-based company MetSol for starting a pilot project to provide innovative technological solutions for the power consumption in the smelter. The main goals include efficient power usage, reduced raw material input, lower greenhouse gas emissions and increased purity of metal. Initially, three electrolysis cells of MetSol technology will be built as a pilot. As soon as the tests are completed and the desired results obtained, KAP will consider expanding the technology to all 264 cells of the potline.
