At present a large quantity of synthetic nets are being used in the agricultural sector. However, considering the physical and chemical properties of betel nut fibre and the non-woven fabrics manufactured from betel nut fibres and their dyeing behavior show excellent results and virtually that can be an excellent substitute of conventional synthetic nets. The fabrics have good drape, strength and good air permeability as well as can withstand any kind of weather like strong sunlight, heavy rain, storm and hail storm for a considerable long period. Moreover, fibre is biodegradable and a zero cost raw material. Not only in the agro - tech sector of technical textiles, this fibre has high potential in the field of home furnishing and decorative product sector also. The needle punched medium and heavy type non-woven may be used as automotive flooring, carpet backing or any other suitable end uses individually or its blends. The study thus shows that the raw materials for betel nut fibres, which so far would have been considered as waste, can be brought in to various uses through proper treatments. Further research in this arena would surely reveal more prospective uses of this new fibre.
